Libertarians are Looking for a few good folks

Throughout the country, the media is full of surveys, studies and anecdotal opinion contributions, expressing disgust with the current crop of politicians that were charged with representing us.
The administration has lost most of the confidence of the nation and the only thing worse is the Congress which has recently posted in the low teens as a percentage of the folks that support that august institution.
Here in South Texas, in Cameron and Hidalgo Counties there have numerous reports of public corruption in the media and the appearance of a lack of interest in taking appropriate action on the part of those charged with protecting us.
It also appears that there is little difference in the two major parties.  The party of Lincoln that always advocated a smaller government and more freedom has been found to be increasing it and limiting freedoms. The party of the working man also seems to be more interested in more government control than in its traditional ideals.
The focus is so far gone that there is serious doubt as to what the real objectives of either party are other than to ensure and increase continued power.
The Libertarian Party, the third largest political party in the United States, is committed to providing an alternative.
The Chairman and the Executive Director of the Texas Libertarian Party will be in Brownsville on Sunday, October 7, to conduct a “mini-conference” to seek candidates for office in the coming elections and to explain what Libertarians are all about. Executive Director Wes Benedict said, “If you’re a dissatisfied voter, it’s time to stop complaining about politicians and run for office yourself! It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s easier than you think! Come find out about it.” Libertarian Party candidates pay no filing fees in Texas.
Chair Pat Dixon said, “With daily stories about the record low approval ratings of our Republican President and Democratic Congress, we think voters are ready for Libertarian politicians that will deliver smaller government.
Candidates don’t have to agree with our platform 100 percent, but we do use “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz” to provide a “freedom quotient”.
Everyone who attends our roundup events will be asked to take this quick, interesting quiz and post their results on a political freedom map.
Check it out at: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html
These events will start out with an introduction to the Libertarian Party covering its history and objectives. Then we’ll give some training on the nuts and bolts of political activism. We’ll also talk about the effects of Ron Paul’s presidential campaign on our party–we’ve recently been inundated with questions about Ron Paul, who ran for president as a Libertarian in 1988.
We’ll have all the necessary paperwork to sign up candidates and will even be taking photos of the candidates.
Libertarians believe the answer to America’s political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness: a free-market economy and the abundance and prosperity it brings; a dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America’s founders.
It should also be noted that the State Libertarian Party is also seeking someone to fill the post of Chairman of the Hidalgo Party Libertarian Party to help the other Libertarians organize into a real party.
The meeting will be in Brownsville on 7-Oct-2007 at 1:30 PM at Antonio’s Restaurant on 840 Parades Line Rd, Brownsville,  956-542-6504
